Run 1

A while ago I started a 0-5k running course with the lovely folks at Elite Conditioning. Sadly, I don’t have your average biomechanics and needed something a little more specialised in terms of help. So I started working with The Fitness Clinic who consist of a few biomechanical geniuses. For four weeks I was able to run pain free thanks to the guidance and advice of Andy, who I have termed “The Running Wizard”. Then The Fitness Clinic launched a 0-5k running course for absolute beginners as well, so I took the opportunity to join in. The course consists of two training sessions with the Wiz each week, plus three runs set to do ourselves. They reckon that in 8 weeks I will be able to run 5k and I trust the process completely, but I am not yet ready to believe that I will meet that goal. But what I do know is that I will give it my absolute all.

So for the next 8 weeks I’m going to use this blog to record the key data points about this little part of my journey. It’ll be fun to see progress as it happens.

Run 1 – Run 1 minute, Walk 1 minute

Total Time: 30 minutes: 10 mins wu/cu, 10 minutes running, 10 minutes walking

Total Distance Travelled: 2.78km

Distance Run: 1.14 km

Distance Walked: 1.64km

Overall average pace: 10.48 mins/km

Average run pace: 9.84 mins/km

Average cadence: 112 spm

Average heart rate: 135 bpm

General impression: The intervals seemed too long on the run and too short on the recovery! Also seemed that the 10 intervals were never ending! But I was running along the seafront in Normandy, whilst on holiday and I felt glad and lucky that I’m in a position to do that.
